National Museum of Women
in the Arts
Added Interaction to the Museum
National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA)
is the only museum in the world dedicated exclusively to recognizing the contribution of women artists. It sought to maximize this unique position when it sought to enhance its Web presence: increase membership (particularly with a younger audience), improve relationships with current members, state committees, other organizations, and artist, and extend its reach
with the general public and arts benefactors.
Working closely with various Museum departments, Cheryl reviewed the existing membership system, collections and library databases, and shop processes. The task for us was to provide NMWA with the strategy and tools to ensure that the way the museum was perceived when seen through its Web site would consistently support and project the best possible picture of what the "physical" museum does and how it does it.
Cheryl facilitated ongoing work sessions with representatives of the museum on Branding, Persona Development, Information Design, and e-commerce strategy.
The online brand designed and built is a transaction-oriented site which integrates with NMWA's Collections database, its Library and Research Center and Membership databases; offers e-commerce capability through the Shop; and provides extensive information on Educational Programs, Special Exhibitions, Facilities, and State Programs. An expandable content management system was designed which allows Museum personnel to update and maintain the sites content, monitor and manage products for sale, and manage memberships online.
Since the redesign, online sales, membership and participation have soared. Cheryl continued to consult and create new functions and marketing for the Museum for several years following the launch of the website.
